Falling Back Gently: Resetting Your Rhythm as the Days Grow Darker

Tonight we set our clocks back an hour, and tomorrow morning, Sunday, November 1, the sun will rise a little earlier and set a lot sooner. For many of us, that first dark drive home is when we really notice the season has turned. The good news is that our bodies were made to move with the seasons. A few simple habits can help you settle into the shorter days with a little more ease.

Start with morning light

Light early in the day is one of the clearest signals we can give ourselves that it's time to be awake. Step outside within an hour of waking, even for ten minutes with your coffee. Open the blinds, sit near a window at breakfast, or take a short walk. On gray Indiana mornings, outdoor light is still brighter than most indoor rooms.

Welcome warmth

As temperatures drop, warmth becomes a comfort we can lean into on purpose: a warm drink, a hot shower, a heavy blanket, a slow meal shared with people we love. Many of our guests enjoy our Ruby Lux red light sauna in late fall and winter simply because it feels so good to sit in a warm, glowing space when it's cold and dark outside.

Breathe slowly

Bonnie often reminds people that breath is a tool we carry everywhere. When the time change leaves you feeling off, try this: breathe in gently through your nose for a count of four, then breathe out slowly for a count of six. Repeat five or six times. It's a simple way to slow down in the car, at your desk, or before bed.

Wind down in the evening

With darkness arriving earlier, let your evenings get quieter too. Dim the lights after dinner, set screens aside an hour before bed, and keep your bedtime and wake time steady for the next week, even on the weekend. A short prayer, a few pages of a good book, or a moment of gratitude can be a peaceful way to close the day.

How our center fits in

  • Ruby Lux red light sauna: warmth and soft red light on cold, dark days.

  • Vitamin D light: a bright, simple option when the sun is scarce.

  • Breath work with Bonnie: practical breathing you can take home and use anywhere.

None of these are required to enjoy the season well. Light, warmth, breath and rest are gifts that have always been available to us. Our center simply offers a calm place to enjoy them together. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or take medications, please check with your doctor before starting anything new.

Come see us

If you'd like to try any of these, the easiest first step is a conversation. Book your free 30-minute tour and conversation at 2955 McKinley Avenue in South Bend, just west of Town & Country Shopping Center. We're open Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm.

Enjoy the extra hour of sleep tonight. We'll see you soon.
